(More customer reviews)Baby Trend: whatever you did to your diaper pail bags please change them back! When we first started using these bags over a year ago, they were great. We didn't care that they were a more expensive than buying trash bags or reusing other bags. They fit the pail properly, were thick plastic (almost like a contractor grade trash bag you'd get from a hardware store), never tore and best of all NO SMELL from the Diaper Champ. It really made a difference that the bags were well constructed and not porous. I purchased two boxes of the refill bags this month and the bags have completely changed - they're about as thin as a cheap grocery bag now. The material they're made of is clear blue and shiny, not opaque blue like they used to be. They rip very easily and won't hold as many diapers because they're not as durable. Suddenly our Diaper Champ reeks because the smell is escaping the thinner bags. We are extremely careful to bleach wipe the entire contraption when we remove a "load" and don't put in a new bag until it's clean, so the problem isn't the diaper pail itself. It's the bags. From now on we'll be buying thicker trash bags instead of these. Too bad. I loved the Diaper Champ products compared to other pail systems until now.

Playtex 40002 Diaper Genie II System Review

(More customer reviews)I'm really surprised by all of the rave reviews of this product as I don't feel it lives up to the hype. I supposed if you are scoring it on improvements alone you can give it more stars, but in some ways it falls short of the original. I'll give you a pro and con list so you can make an informed decision.
Pro:
It holds more than the original (I think).
Con:
Odor control: Good until you put in another diaper and get a nose full of the previous diaper. The original Genie twisted between each diaper so you didn't smell the previous diaper. This one spring locks to an open bag so you could potentially have several stewing bad diapers inside.
Cutting Mechanism: Better than the very bad original model but still needs help. You cut it by pushing the bag bundle against a blade slot inside the pail. The blade is only on one side so you have to push just right against the blade to get a good cut. It often requires a couple of passes. A better design would have been two counteropposing blades for a perfect cut no matter how you put the bag in.
New Bags: This was a blatant money making scheme. Since you use less of the bags because you don't twist in between each diaper they gave you less bags. They could have easily designed this with the old bag system which would have allowed you to go even longer prior to changing bags. Clearly that would not have allowed enough bag replacements so they force you to buy the new smaller one. The bags are also not scented like the stage 2's were and are not as readily available in supermarkets like the originals.
Unsanitary: This unit seems less sanitary than the original as you have to physically push the bad diaper through the spring loaded trap. The spring trap is firm to keep the smell in but as a result you have to touch the interior of the bag push it through. If you could just drop it in without having to push it through it would have been better. Ever have those really full diapers? Picture one of those and then push it into spring loaded trap door. If there is any resistance from previous diapers pushing back from the other side (and there usually is) your full diaper tends to squirt!
Thus my quest for the perfect diaper pail continues. This is my fourth pail and all seem to fall short. My daughter will likely be potty trained by the time I find one that really works well. I'm currently testing the First Years Odor Free pail and it seems to be working better.

(More customer reviews)This product took into consideration the few criticisms of the diaper genie 2 and improved on it. It has a little pedal you step on to open the top lid, you put your diaper in and release. Truly one handed operation, minimal smell because of the way the internal clasp seals the bag when you step on the pedal, and you never touch the inside bag. Occasionally, if I don't step on the pedal all the way, I get a whif of the internal contents because the clasp doesn't seal all the way...but I figure thats my fault for not doing it correctly. It now has a handle on the front so you can carry it with one hand, and emptying is similar to genie 2. If your a fan of the diaper genie...you'll like this product.
You do still have to buy their refills, and that is the one big drawback. I've seen the price come down to equal that of genie 1 refills, so if your already paying for them, then its not a problem. Our refills last 3 weeks with our toddler's diapers.

I am very disappointed in the new Diaper Champ. We had one of the older Diaper Champs for our first son and we loved it. When anyone mentioned Diaper Genie, we quickly steered them towards your product. "Don't get stuck buying up their expensive cartridges," we'd say. Not anymore. If it was just one flaw, I could handle it, but you have re-designed the DC to the point of uselessness.
First, it's much shorter. I'm not a tall guy, so I can only imagine how frustrating this is for taller people. I want to stay as close to my daughter when she's on the changing table, bending over just gets me that much further from her. Plus, I'm an adult. Bending over gets tougher each year. Every time I toss out a diaper, I'm reminded that next time, will be a little more uncomfortable.
Secondly, it's smaller. Your claim that it allows for less odors to escape is ridiculous. Of course it's going to smell less, because I'm changing the bag in it every other day. So much for saving money in these difficult times.
Thirdly, did anyone actually open the Champ and try replacing a bag before you shipped it off? It is top heavy and ridiculously off-balance. If the Diaper Champ is open, it will not stand up. How does a fact like this get past your development team? Do your engineers have children? I have banged-up walls and stubbed toes because of this ridiculous and unnecessary "upgrade."
I don't know why you felt the need to upgrade a fine product. Yes, it's true, scraping my knuckles every time I opened the old Champ was not a pleasant experience. I do like the "button" option on the new one, though getting a bag in and out of the Champ is like some kind of Chinese Chin-Ning Chu mind game. I'm with kids all day, so I need a little mental stimulation, but at what cost, I ask you? Every time I am rocking my daughter to sleep, I sneer at my new Diaper Champ and whisper, "Why can't you be like your big brother?" Imagine the damage I am doing to my daughter.

(More customer reviews)I originally put this item on my baby registry because friends of mine highly recommended the use of a diaper pail. I decided to go with the Diaper Champ rather than the more popular Diaper Genie, because I didn't like the idea of having to buy special bags. Too costly and not efficient if you ask me!
THIS PRODUCT IS A LIFESAVER!! I HAVE NEVER HAD AN ODOR PROBLEM!
No one has ever come to my house and noticed 'diaper odor.' In fact, people who have been present while I changed my almost 3 month old son's diaper have been amazed at how the very 'potent' smell of the dirty diaper seems to disappear once I dispose of the diaper in the Diaper Champ.
For those who are experiencing odor problems, here are some suggestions which should solve the problem:
1. CHANGE BAGS FREQUENTLY!! I change mine about 1 or 2 times a week. For those who complain that the pail gets stuck, that is probably a good indication that the BAG IS GETTING TOO FULL!! Also, making sure that the tape on the diapers is secure will prevent that from happening as well.
2. YOU STILL HAVE TO CLEAN THE THING!! Hello, it does house dirty diapers!! All I do is wipe it down with some antibacterial wipes (takes about 10 seconds!!) and then maybe spray some Lysol in it and let it air out for a minute or two. SIMPLE AND IT WORKS!
Also, for those that complain that the Diaper Champ isn't as effective as time passes, keep the following in mind:
AS BABIES GET OLDER, THEIR DIETS CHANGES (aka SOLID FOODS!) AND SO DOES THE SMELL OF THEIR DIAPERS!
In talking with other parents, I get the same feedback - as babies get older and become toddlers, ALL DIAPER PAILS become gradually less and less effective until they are just no longer useful. Again, this is because as their diet changes, so does the consistency and odor of their stool, in other words, it gets stinkier!!!
All in all, this product is definitely one I would recommend and certainly worth the very reasonable price.

I had a friend over with her baby recently. The product came in extremely handy when you don't want to throw away dirty diapers at a friends house with no children yet. The bag masks any oder with a baby powder scent! Oh...and it also works great with litter.
